“Mammy, when’s the circus coming to town? Look at all the clown posters!”

There’s a new group over on flickr called Irish Election Posters that ‘may very well self-destruct after 24th May‘.

…post as many pics of the horrid cult-of-personality and used-car-salesman mugshots currently desecrating our telegraph poles as you can and give us all a laugh at the silly people.

The rules are: post as many pics as possible, the funnier or crappier the better, don’t take it seriously, post while drunk and tell all your friends. Simple eh?

Best quote:
“Mammy, when’s the circus coming to town? Look at all the clown posters!”

Seen a pic that really sums up the whole pitiful mess? Go on, give it an Enda:

Here’s my photo that ‘won’ an Enda…
Brady poster planning

P.S. I think the group was started by stevefe (flickr)
P.P.S. When I posted this photo, I also linked it to this post (A Contemptible Nation) by Public Enquiry. The whole blog is well worth a read if you have time…
P.P.P.S TheBaz had an (election-related) flickr photo published in the Irish Times on Tuesday, 8th May, and he’s wondering if/how he’ll get paid for it…

Yep, it’s my “brain”child. Sorry. I just thought that the way these things sprout overnight once the election date’s announced, and the bloody ridiculous waste of plastic and ink involved, and what happens to them afterwards, and all that, should be documented and thought about, and the piss well and truly taken. Fine Gael and others’ ludicrously badly photoshopped efforts, and the amusing juxtapositions of other permanent signage with the transient hopefuls, have delivered plenty of comedic opportunity and I laugh my bollocks off every time see the group photopool.

I liked the more serious point you made with this pic, as well as the way you captured the ridiculous self-aggrandisement of these people.

    Hi Steve,
I agree with everything you wrote. And I’ll keep an eye out for other posters now that I know there’s somewhere to highlight the folly.

I live in Bertie’s electoral area. Sadly, and/or realistically, he could potentially commit any crime …(pause)… and he’d still get elected :-(

I wonder if he’ll do a ‘Tony’ when he retires/resigns and confess that he did what he did because he thought was the right thing to do at the time?
