All I want for Christmas is

God help me but all I want for Christmas is a tripod for my camera. Both of these photo’s were taken without the use of a tripod. The first photo was taken outside the office at around 5.30pm (ignore the time stamp on the photo) while the second was taken at home around 8pm.

Here’s the science bit. I used my new 70-300mm camera lenses and, apparently, the 300mm setting is the film equivalent of 450mm (?). Anyway, IMHO, they’re cool photos.

The first photo, taken at work, was achieved by me simply leaning against the wall. I’m quite good at that – leaning against walls. At home, I initially rested the camera on my wheelie bin to ‘steady’ the camera but, strangely, it only made the photos worse? So I leaned against the wall and, voila!

I can’t explain the difference in colour between the two as both were ‘just’ cropped and sharpened in picasa. If I may be so bold, download both from my flickr account and magnify them on your computer. The first photo is ‘naughty’ if you have an anatomical mind (look at the lower quadrant) while the second photo appears to show mountains and craters in the right quadrant.

My father helped me choose the first photo and any complaints should be referred to him. This paragraph is here simply to embarass him!
