Cleverer than me

I tried to take a few photos after dark tonight but the camera refushed to work. It makes noise like it’s focusing but then refuses to take the picture. The bloody thing is cleverer than me. Damn, now I’ll have to read the manual.
One of my co-workers is more cleverer than me too. She’s a young, newly-wed mum with a little baby girl, Cathleen. She’s really efficient with her time and she turns on her out-of-office message at 5.30pm on the dot. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, and I never send her urgent emails after 5.00pm. The message says:
Normal office hours are 9.00-5.30.
On the surface, it’s quite straightforward and factual but it’s also a bit too Zen for my liking. There’s a little bit of a rebuke in it, don’t you think?
I get a little smile every time I read it.
