Ouch, what a week.

In and out of the UK twice this week. Should be in a Co Waterford pub right now (with golf tomorrow) but, due to bad weather in Amsterdam (don’t ask but you should feel sorry for the poor pilot on overtime), I’m writing this at home (midnight, Dublin) and wondering how I’m going to get up at 6am to get on the road to meet my tee-off time of 11am. To add to the fun, my flights routed through Heathrow and Birmingham.

Used 3 different airlines and BMI was the worst (’nuff said). In total, lost 5 hours of my life this week sitting, looking at airport monitors. How hard is it to tell the paying public where the plane is?? Afterall they’re kinda hard to miss. Put simply, not one of the four flights took off or landed withing 30 mins of the advertised time.

I can’t decide which was most demoralising:

1. Making it past the ‘gate’ at Dublin this morning only to stand around for 20mins beside a driver-less bus. After awhile, one of the Ryanair robotic hostesses ‘in charge’ came down and asked, ‘why are you still here?’ ‘There’s no bus driver.‘ To which she replied, ‘that’s so unfair’. Hmmm.

2. Arrival time in BHX should have been 8.30am. Looked out the airplane window at 8.30am to see the wonderful edifice that is Dublin airport. Hmmm.

Apparently there was a shortage of bus drivers in Dublin airport this morning. But there was lots of fat, unshaven ‘ramp co-ordinators’ walking around with walkie talkies. None of them were wearing glasses. Keep up the good work, lads.

But…

fjl, who give me a gentle ribbing about the innocence in one of my earlier posts, how about this? As we landed in Dublin, a child, who’d been pretty boisterous throughout his first flight, exclaimed out loud, ‘oh no, we’ve gone back to Birmingham airport. I wanna go to Ireland‘? How innocent and refreshing is that?

Kinda cheered me up and put it all into perspective.
