Eto’o will score and so will I

I was in the Black Bull pub in Drogheda last weekend watching the Liverpool v West Ham match. One of my friends brought Ryan, his 12yr old boy, along for awhile. Ryan is very innocent but fanatical about football and very, very accurate in his predictions. It was a bit scary. Apart from his football knowledge, he was full of confidence. I asked him what sports he played. He didn’t play any sports because he’s ‘more of a manager‘. Anyhow, he predicted the FA cup final almost to the minute.

He then predicted that Eto’o, a Barcelona player, would score the first goal in the final tonight. Since I recognise talent when I see it, and I know nothing about football, I’ve placed a fiver on Eto’o to score the first goal. The odds are 5/1. It was a bit embarassing placing the bet in the bookies since I normally don’t gamble.

I might buy a lotto ticket if it goes above €3M (as it’s not worth the effort for anything less than that!!). The lady in the bookies had to come out from behind the counter, physically point to the information on the board, help me fill out the form, and take my money. She’ll stop laughing tomorrow when I go in to collect my winnings!!

Anyway, 45mins to kick-off. Now that I think about it, I should have asked Ryan, the 12yr old who knows all about football, when Eto’o will score as I don’t actually want to watch the match.  My prediction is that Eto’o will score first and I’ll score €30 tomorrow when I collect my winnings from the bookies.
